Doctors warn swimmers about risk of flesh-eating bacteria in Hou

@susanbanthony : I hope people heed this warning. This isn't just true for necrotizing fasciitis, but ALL bacteria that can be found in all bodies of water. That's how I lost my leg. MRSA infection from the Guadalupe River. It was running low and slow, and conditions were perfect for bacteria. I never even realized I had a cut on my foot. The bacteria spread so fast. Two weeks later, I'm in an ambulance, dying.

@Catmae : OMG!....I think of all the times I swam in pretty much every major body of water in East Texas down to the Coast in my youth....My biggest fears were snakes and gators and getting caught in a stray trot line.....Never once though of Flesh Eating bacteria....I never recall it being mentioned in the media back then.....So sad you lost a leg, but I imagine it could have been much worse...Thanks for sharing....

Lucky for me I am only fishing on boats but hopefully I do not fall overboard.

I dont remember ever hearing about this in my youth. Like you we swam and waded in every type of water source. But, this took my brothers life. Now im scared for my kids and grkids.
