@Greg : I haven't been on. Covid is here to stay and we are going to have to find a way to live with it. The flu can be very bad too. Doesn't seem as contagious as Covid is appearing to be though. It's the new norm Emoticon

Texas Influenza Data from the Texas Department of State Health and Human Services:

Sept.29,2019 - Jan. 29, 2020: 2650 Texas deaths from Influenza/Pneumonia
21 under the age of 18

Sept. 29, 209 - June 10, 2020: 8377 Texas deaths from Influenza/Pneumonia
61 under the age of 18

2018-2019 Flu Season: 10,020 Texas deaths from Influenza/Pneumonia
82 under the age of 18

2017-2018 Flu Season. 11,917 Texas deaths from Influenza/Pneumonia
79 under the age of 18

I agree that Covid appears to be more contagious, but the we have to remember that the flu numbers are with a vaccine and Tamiflu. Also, we do not test for the flu like we do for Covid. No one goes and gets tested for the flu just because they were in the same room as someone with the flu. How do we know that there aren't asymptomatic flu carriers? If you've ever worked in a school or in child care, then you know that they will start dropping like flies as soon as the first flu case shows up, and that you will be begging for Kleenex by Thanksgiving. In my opinion, this will be with us for good and we have to figure out how to live with it.

@carol888 : My point is that there are people running down the street with their arms waving around in the air screaming the Covid is coming. Schools closed because of Covid. Business closed because of Covid. Don't see your family because of Covid.
Keep safe if you have risk factors. If you have a child who has risk factors don't take a change. BUT if you are healthy the chances of getting Covid and dying are very, very, low.
So, my point is we have the actual flu deaths of 24,000-62,000 and way more kids who have died of it, yet no school closures.

Go to the CDC link and read how these estimates come together. There is nowhere near that many deaths from the flu in America or in Texas. 11,000 in Texas? 65,000 in the U.S.? No chance. Never in my life have I ever known or heard of anyone going to the hospital or dying from the flu. And I've been around a long time.
