Instacart charges like 20% in addition to del fees.
FYI-as I never knew this (signed my mom up on it last year but my first time). I would of never caught it except I don't have a damn thing to do today so I checked my charges, but like my Fajita meat, priced at $14.24 on package, charged $17.21 on my Instacrt bill, all the meat/chicken is a cpl bucks more. I haven't checked the staple stuff as the price isn't listed on the packages but I'm sure it's the same.
So, in addition to the delivery fee, I just paid about $35 (upcharges were 15 to 20% that I checked) in upcharges, whatever you want to call them, and $15 in tip, cost me $50 plus to have a couple hundred dollars in groceries delivered. Worth it to me now (as I need to stay out of grocery stores) but I'll never do it again.
I never knew that, so just FYI incase you didn't either. Not such a good deal anymore. I'm on hold with them now as they charged me for a few items they didn't bring, and I'm going to ask how they figure that/what the % is they charge over the regular price.

Is the markup to pay the shoppers? Do their shoppers make an hourly wage or solely tips like Uber and doordashers do?

), but when I googled it for clarification, some info said the store charges more (not Instacart) when IC is delivering. Not sure I understand that as it's not costing the store more (maybe different billing). I'm gonna ask them, I got 52 minutes more to go

When you do curbside at HEB all the items are slightly higher, not as much as that though. I got a coupon for a free mod pizza but you had to do DoorDash. By the time you paid the up charge and tip it would negate the discount.

Ah, ok! If the store is charging more, that's ridiculous. If it's instacart marking it up to pay the shoppers a wage, I would be ok with that.

@cador : I think some of the individual stores charge more. I noticed Spec's is much higher than in store on Instacart, but Total Wine and Petco appear to have normal prices listed, at least for what I buy.

@cador : Wow I had no idea they charged that much more! If I do order online I will just go thru HEB directly. And Pick it up myself. Thanks for the heads up. I am sorry this happened.

I talked to them (held for over 2 hrs to get a $4 refund on the TP, wouldn't of done that if I had something to do today), she said they charge what HEB's catalog tells them, she wouldn't tell me/said she didn't know where that increase went (to Instacart or HEB).
