hutch5801 : also nice to have a lawyer as a son-in-law. But Cador is correct. Unless you are a really rich. Easiest thing to do is carry an umbrella . However, msot people have to cut off the budget at some point. Look at our HOA balance sheet and see how many people apparently can't afford to pay $500 a year.

A million dollar umbrella is not that much money. If you have teen drivers or want to protect assets get it. Bear in mind, if someone takes out a family in an accident, a million is not much.

Do you realize these kids were friends? If the shoe was on the other foot Jagger would be dead and the other would be alive!Simply put they all engaged in the same behavior he just happen to be the driver.Again, my heart goes out to all 3 families. What many of you don't know is there was a 3rd girl in the car however she was dropped off at home first. This left 3!!!!

He's not a murder he's a kid running around with his friends that made a tragic mistake!It was an accident and all 3 were under the influence! PERIODIM NOT BEING A ***** IM JUST BEING HONEST

lynnsgirl : I 100% agree. Three kids made the decision to drink and drive or ride. The girls should have called home or someone to pick them up. I'd not be a good one on the jury.

I feel sad for all parties involved. I hope they strongly go after the store that sold the booze to them.

tflea : I am sure the store will get the hit but I don't feel it is fair to have an employee do something that endangers your company and you are wrong just for owning it. I stress this to DH all the time about monitoring employees about driving rentals and use a card that covers the car if they don't have good insurance but what happens if they hit someone and a death is involved? he thinks I worry too much and I think he doesn't enough!

That's true. I'm not judging anyone-just quoting some ins stuff. Most of us have been in similar situations that could of, but didn't end in a unfortunate tragedy such as this. It's sad for everybody, I've prayed for all involved.
But legally-the accountability falls 100% on the driver-its a black n white law (especially when their is alcohol involved)-the drivers is legally responsible for all their passengers.
