Splendora High teacher accused of falsely reporting attack by student and causing lockdown
A Splendora High School teacher is accused of falsely reporting that she was attacked by a student Thursday morning after the alleged hoax prompted a lockdown at the school, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.Nicole Truelove, 53, a first-year teacher at the school, will be charged with filing a false report and tampering with evidence in connection with the incident, a sheriff's official said. No further details about the incident were released.Splendora ISD Superintendent Dustin Bromley said Truelove has no prior disciplinary record with the district during a news conference streamed by KHOU.
More than 80 law enforcement officials responded from multiple departments.A panic alarm was activated at the school around 8:45 a.m., according to the sheriff's office. Several school resource officers responded and the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution. After about 20 minutes, the school was placed on a secure hold.After an investigation, detectives learned the injuries to the teacher were allegedly self-inflicted with some sort of sharp object and that no student was involved. Truelove, officials allege, was the one who activated the panic alarm. The teacher was not transported to the hospital.Bromley said that school staff followed the district's safety and security measures and that the response "worked flawlessly.""It was followed to the T," Bromley said during the news conference. "This is a unique situation, being that it was self-inflicted. I just saw this, and all I can say is wow. I am glad no other people were hurt, but this teacher has some major issues. This is why I wait for all information to come forth before commenting.
