ACIA request for volunteers to solicit vote to restrict rental properties. Residents should VOTE NO. Totally unnecessary. Short term rentals can be managed effectively by other processes that aren't so restrictive and controlling to property owners. Our property already has so many restrictions we can hardly breathe correctly. The following text is an excerpt from an email sent by ACIA. ACIA is looking for some friendly volunteers to go door-to-door in our community to encourage neighbors to vote on the proposed amendment to our Declarations of Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&Rs). This amendment, known as the Short-Term Rental Amendment, would prohibit short-term rentals in our neighborhood-helping preserve the safety, peace, and family-friendly character we all value. A total of 1,641 affirmative votes are required for the amendment to pass. Current votes FOR the amendment: 681
Current votes AGAINST the amendment: 124
That means 960 more "YES" votes are needed for passage. Right now, over 1,500 homeowners have not yet voted.

Vote YES. This will restrict the airbnbs but still allow for people who want to rent their homes for non-hotel purposes for shorter than a year. It would just have to be approved similar to how you get your paint color approved. The purpose is to prevent the party houses, trafficking houses and other illegal activities that many of our neighbors are dealing with now. There's absolutely no reason for a home in our neighborhood to be an Airbnb. We're not in a touristy area. The neighborhood is already going downhill. Let's not make it go any faster. The only people I've talked to who are against this are people who don't understand what it means or who want to devalue our homes by having airbnbs for them to make money off of making our community suffer. For those who live in other neighborhoods, I would definitely encourage you to ask your HOA to be involved in passing restrictions to protect your community.
Pinehurst : "Protect" same tired overused excuse to enact arbitrary restrictions. ACIA is unable to enforce current deed restrictions. Enacting more restrictions will only lengthen the list of unenforceable rules.

susanbanthony : How do you know? Maybe it's tied up in the courts for unwilling people? Do you run an AirBnB in the neighborhood?
AMCLady : Housing capitalism I reckon. I would like the " no business" enforceable in the deed restrictions, but the state nixed that years ago.
They need to mow by chase bank before someone gets killed again pulling out. Chase said they mow their part. Why can they keep things mowed

ParksideRes : Well, nothing has been enforced here for years. I wonder why I'm still paying maintenance fees when there's no maintenance being done anymore. I gave up going to the board meetings along time ago. It was like beating your head against the wall. Nothing ever gets done. People on my street do what they want to do. Neighbors should know me know exactly what I'm talking about.
