First - I like Chris Christie & think this story is likely mostly hype & likely done without the knowledge of the governor. But this is an interesting read worth noting.

"New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said on Wednesday that he was misled by staff over the reasons for lane closures that caused heavy traffic around the George Washington Bridge and delayed emergency services that newly released e-mails suggest were orchestrated by his appointees as political punishment for a politician who did not back his reelection.

While Christie issued a statement saying he was outraged at the apparent conduct that tied up traffic for days around the nation's busiest bridge in September, Democrats fanned the flames of scandal around the popular Republican politician and possible 2016 presidential candidate."

I like Christie as well, but as Roy's post indicated Democrats will use this issue as a sledgehammer. It's all about political gamesmanship. Now certainly to close lanes needlessly on a busy bridge to punish a politician who won't play ball is despicable. Because typically it's not only the target that suffers but also the citizens. Sadly this type of political payback goes on behind the scenes all the time in both parties.

Hopefully for Christie's sake he can prove he had no knowledge of this particular incident. If there's a so-called smoking gun with his fingerprints on it, his career might be damaged beyond repair.

I recently had dinner with a lawyer with 46 years experience. Based on his observations during this time, he stated most people never get above the age of 18 in their decision making ability. Probably a good observation.

Christie's response: " What difference does it make now? Was it because of construction, or because a bunch of tourists decided to go out and cause a traffic jam? "

It has worked before...

as a taxpayer, I could go for traffic jams to control election outcome - much less costly than gerrymandering....

Wow that is just wrong..........Just point the finger at someone else.

“I terminated her employment because she lied to me,” Christie said about Bridget Anne Kelly, 41, his former deputy chief of staff during a nearly two-hour news conference in Trenton, adding that he had no “inkling anyone on my staff could be so stupid and so deceitful.”
Kelly – who sent an email to longtime Christie crony and then-Port Authority official David Wildstein that read “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee” – was sent packing at 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

@Donnie:

Scapegoats are often well paid. Would be interesting to see where she is a year from now.

Emails and live mikes are dangerous. I guess message boards could be.
