Back in the early '70s, I coached 8 to 10 year old girls slow pitch softball. Most of the time there were no problems. When we were playing we ran a little concession stand to get money for our uniforms. And when we were playing the other teams would take over. But there was a couple of dads who had the mouth off at the empire and and then the empire would come over to me, the coach, and tell me if I didn't shut them up we would have to forfeit the game. This is 50 years ago. Sad, but that's what I would have to do and they usually cooperated.
However, I had a parent that thought that her daughter had to have special privileges above the other girls. I had a rule that if you did not come to the practices and you only showed up for the games I may not put you in the game at all. I thought that was only fair to the girls that came once or twice a week to practice. So in this parent's daughter didn't get into a game, she complained to our softball coordinator. Now remember this job is voluntary. I got a call from my coordinator who had my back but said she talked to the mom and told her that the rules and the mom would cooperate. Well, that little girl did not show up for practice all week but she showed up for the game at about the third inning of the next game. I didn't even know she had shown up because she didn't report to me. She sat at the end of the bench and her mother was sitting behind the backstop. So of course she wasn't put in the game. The mom calls the next day and complains about me again. But my coordinator was also at the game and she saw what the parent did and she backed me up. This is the mother who had her kid in all kinds of activities. She never had the time to take her kid to practice.

Sheesh. Tournament ball is ridiculous these days. Little league sports are also ridiculous. Nobody's kid under 16 is signing a Pro contract; I'm sorry, it's not happening.On the other side of this. Did anyone see the story about the cops getting called on a 3yr old for being too good at soccer? Police came and escorted the family from the fields and gave them a refund. People are trying to say it's because the parents were recording the match, but TMZ revealed the 911 call and the police released the bodycam footage.
