MOTHER ARRESTED FOR CHILD ENDANGERMENT AFTER LEAVING 9-YEAR-OLD ALONE IN PARKING LOT FOR HOURS!

On July 26, 2025, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to a welfare check in the 3800 block of Atascocita Road (Cricket Wireless parking lot) in the Trails of the Lakes subdivision.

Concerned employees reported that a young child had been wandering the parking lot alone for several hours. Deputies arrived on scene and located a 9-year-old boy, who stated he had been waiting for his mother to return for at least two hours. Witness statements and video surveillance confirmed the child had been left unattended for even longer.

Deputies contacted the child’s mother, identified as Markeisha Cartwright, who repeatedly delayed her return despite being informed of the situation. Once Cartwright returned to the location, she was taken into custody.

The child was evaluated by EMS and released to his father in good health. Child Protective Services was notified and briefed on the incident.

“Markeisha Cartwright was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Child Endangerment.

The safety of every child in our community remains a top priority.” – Constable Mark Herman

@TortieMama :
ya, remembering when my little boy was 9 and the thought turns my stomach. right on the footsteps of another post I was reading where a elderly lady asked a person talking loudly on a cell phone to please quiet down as she couldn't even hear what the cashier was saying to her only to be verbally assaulted all the way out in the parking lot to her car involving others that was with her?? I walk into these situations quite often and immediately retreat as far from them as possible only to have them show up in check out right behind you as she did. I make sure to use that cart as a buffer. Everything going to

While I too roamed around at that age, my mother did not drop me off in a business parking lot next to a busy street for hours while she did who knows what.

@MrsT : I'd walk to the shopping center that was right by 1960.

Are you serious right now? How old are your kids? Mine are 8 and 10. I'm not dropping them off in that Kroger parking lot and leaving them for hours.

@MrsT : I went to the mall a couple miles from my house and played until I was broke. Never thought about it being dangerous

@MrsT : That was woods back in the day, but I would ride my bike all over the Northside of 1960. I didn't start crossing it until I was in Middle School, JS.

I don't think Mom-shamming is the answer here... based on the details known.

You're right we don't, I'm not. I'm saying it's not the same. And I know what was there, I've lived here 44 years, what used to be there isn't even relevant.

@redneckroy @MrsT :
It's all based on the maturity of the child, guys. I think nowadays, it's a little odd seeing kids out and about like we did in the 80s, and that's the biggest concern. Not sure I'd call the cops. Maybe asking if they're ok and making sure they have a phone or don't need to borrow one. Feral children still exist.
