On June 8, 2024, deputies with Constable Mark Herman's Office conducted a traffic stop in the 17400 block of Woodland Hills Drive. The driver was identified as Richard Foster and displayed signs of intoxication.

AtascocitaDotCom :

So why would the "headline" read:

"CONSTABLES ARREST A SUSPECTED DRUNK DRIVER"

If he was proven to be intoxicated?....Why not simply "Constables Arrest Drunk Driver"?....

EddyFree :
Because he hasn't been found guilty in court, and the risk is that if it's thrown out for some reason, he comes back and sues us for libel.

By the way...we're just using the wording sent to us by the police department. We defer to their terminology, usually.

Joe :

But it was also mentioned in the piece that

"it was determined that he was intoxicated."

That doesn't say "it was SUSPECTED that he may have been intoxicated".....

Maybe better would be "standard field tests were administered that indicate that he may have been intoxicated"......

At least until proven in a court of law.....
