Monitoring the Bay of Campeche for potential tropical development this week October 4 Update Eyes back on the Gulf with a tropical disturbance attempting to take shape. The National Hurricane Center has tagged an area of deep tropical moisture in the southern Gulf with a 30% chance of tropical development over the next 7 days. There isn't great model agreement yet on this system, where it goes, or even if it forms. What we do know is that the typical pattern for storms in the Gulf in October favors storms moving into the eastern Gulf, not the western Gulf in our neck of the woods. Still, we're keeping a watchful eye on this potential system. October 3 8 p.m. Update We're monitoring the Bay of Campeche for potential tropical development next week as a tropical low could form with the help of high tropical moisture in the Central American Gyre. It's a low, 20% chance over the next 7 days and typically tropical development in the Caribbean and Gulf this time of year begins to favor an eastward trajectory towards Florida than Texas. Either way, right now we've increased rain chances to 20% Friday and Saturday of next week to account for the possibility that tropical moisture is nearby the Texas coastline. At this time it's a low chance of a tropical system making landfall in Southeast Texas. October 3 Update The record streak of quiet weather in the Atlantic continues. No tropical development is expected over the next 7 days. We;ve already broken the record for the deepest we've ever been in hurricane season without a hurricane (since the satellite era), and it looks like we'll add at least another week to that streak. Long-range models do show signs of some sort of disturbance in the southern Gulf, but October typically favors storms moving towards the eastern Gulf rather than the western Gulf. October 2 Update The Pacific remains active with two systems to track. No threat to Texas at this time. Meanwhile, the leftovers of former Tropical Storm Fay are located several hundred miles southeast of Bermuda. There are some thunderstorms, but dry air and strong winds should keep the system from getting stronger. It will move slowly north-northwest, east of Bermuda. Formation odds are low, only a 10% chance of developing into a stronger tropical system over the next 48 hours or the next 7 days. No threat to land at this time. October 1 Update The Pacific remains active with three systems to track. No threat to Texas at this time. Meanwhile, the Atlantic turns quiet to start off the new month. abc13.com/post/tropi cal-weather-update-2 026-atlantic-hurrica ne-season-begin
