Women cannot go out alone. It's a sad commentary on today's world. You can't trust anyone to help you. Please take all precautions to ensure your safety. I try to run errands before noon because criminals like to sleep in. Since I'm a senior, I'm a target. I park as close to store as possible and look around for people lurking in parking lot. I never open my front door to strangers. No longer sell things online unless my son is involved and can handle transaction. Just be careful.

Quite a few years ago when my children were still at home it would be the order of the day if a parent was not present, do not open the door, tell someone through the door mom or dad is asleep and can't come to the door, do not answer the phone or answer it and say they have the wrong number. Today all the children are grown and now they tell me the very same things along with putting up cameras so we can see who is coming and who is around our home. Do not give anyone personal information.

I saw that and immediately wondered why anyone would jog near bayous given all of the bodies that are being found. Not that she deserved that or that it is in any way her fault. But I just thought that I wouldn't be out walking and running by the bayou 'cuz things are weird.

I agree. I had a woman approach me in a parking lot asking for money. I told her no and slammed my car door shut and took off. She didn't cause me any problems but I realized that it could have gone sideways quickly. Pretty sure there was a man in her car with her. My mistake was that I parked quite a distance from a restaurant where I had gone to lunch with friends. It was a busy parking lot, and I was having trouble finding a parking spot. Next time, I will keep circling around until I find some place much closer. I've always parked a distance and walked so that I could get a few extra steps. Trying to get out of the habit of doing that. It isn't worth it.

It really doesn't matter how close you are. I was mugged maybe 15 feet from the front door of a restaurant.

Forgot to mention that I usually run errands in the morning, too. I tell dh that I'm going shopping before the "night shift" (criminals) gets up and moving.

Amazon sells small pocket sized pepper spray. Carry it everywhere we go. Hope it buys us enough time to get away.
