This is a slow-motion video of that lightning strike. The drone is over Atascocita, facing southwest towards Houston. This was taken Tuesday evening (7/7/2026).

There have been some really great storms over the last couple of days. I'm still going through all of the video to find good pictures. As I find good stuff, I'll post it to this thread.

@BuckWild :
Reminds me of the time that we got a crazy bad t-storm when we were in Orange Beach at night. We were staying in a condo on the beach. We opened up the shades, turned off the lights, and just watched the prettiest free show that last for hours. It was years ago, and I still remember it well. Absolutely fascinating.

I really like this image. It's from about 45 minutes before the lightning shots above. Once again, the drone is facing southwest. On the right, you can see the sunset. On the left, you can see that thunderstorm starting to creep up on the Houston skyline.

Here's another image that turned out great. Modern digital cameras aren't really good for filming lightning. Most of the video frames don't look all that great. Images perfectly in sync with the lightning bolt are pretty rare. The drone is facing northeast in this image.

Here's some more good shots I got around the same time as the previous image...

This last one has some distortion but still looks pretty epic!

I was looking at the sunset video again where the drone was facing southwest. It turns out there's a thunderstorm on the right side as well!
Now the drone camera is facing southeast, and you can see another big storm forming. I think the combination of lightning and sunset looks pretty cool here.

Very nice. Are you pulling stills off of video? #msg2191387
This image would have been incredible if it was in sync with the lightning. Unfortunately, most of the lighting images are like this.
The lighting on the very right is near the Huffman side of the Lake Houston Bridge. The lightning bolt to the left of that is right around Scott's Point.

So this is back at sunset. I turned the camera northeast, and it looked like there was a rainbow...
Then I turned the camera north, and I realized the drone was inside the rainbow...
You can really see it as I turn the drone northwest...

And there's the sunset.

Being inside the rainbow meant it was raining, so I had to land the drone at that point. You can really tell that it's raining when you watch the video. I'll work on making a hyperlapse of that because it's pretty cool.
