Yes – it’s the middle of winter here in Houston, but a group of local businesses and homeowners have their eyes set on the coming spring. The excitement is building about the first annual Lake Houston Area Home & Garden Show, coming to the Humble Civic Center on February 19 and 20, 2011. Focusing in on a trend happening all over the greater Houston market, the producer’s who brought you “Tasting The Town”, (held annually in September at the Civic Center) are bringing the first large-scale Home & Garden Show to our area to fulfill the need for local businesses to market in their own neighborhoods and the desire of homeowners to put a name with a face and meet qualified vendors for their home improvement needs and purchases.
Event attendees will enjoy exciting features such as a “Shop at the Show” area for cash and carry purchases of home décor, jewelry, home products and more; a “Go Green Zone” with businesses that will help homeowners live a more green lifestyle; and a slate of speakers on topics such as organic gardening, home organizing, do-it-yourself projects and more. Event producer Jennifer Jozwiak noted, “This is the perfect event for every homeowner who has even the inkling of a thought about doing anything to their home like landscaping or building a pool; or even something simple like repainting a room or updating décor.” Not only will attendees be able to see what the hot trends are, but will be able to meet businesses face-to-face, which is always helpful when deciding who they want to work with.
The Seminar Series, which will run both days concurrently with the Home & Garden Show, will feature experts such as Johnny Chuoke, host of “The Happy Handyman Show”, speaking about DIY projects; professional organizer Ellen DeLap, founder of Professional-Organizer.com, who will be teaching attendees how to de-clutter their lives; and Bobby Spence from Harvest Supply Company will offer tips and tricks about organic gardening for the homeowner. Event co-producer Tiffany Bauer noted, “We have so many exciting speakers – there will be something for everyone. I personally am excited about finding out how to prevent this bedbug outbreak in the northeast from reaching my home!” Local expert, Brett Rogers of Bugtime’s Do-It-Yourself Pest Control will be on hand to speak about this hot topic. “It used to be that our only option was to travel from the suburbs to downtown for resources like this to improve our lifestyles or our homes. Almost every major suburb in Houston has their own local Home & Garden Show, and now that there are more than a quarter million residents within 10 miles of the city of Humble – this is a show whose time has come,” noted Jozwiak. Local businesses, like Warren’s Southern Gardens in Kingwood, Vista Pools & Contractors in Atascocita, and The Gold Exchange in Humble are excited about the opportunity to share their expertise and products with local homeowners, and are sponsoring the show.
Chris Miles of HouseTalk Today (1070 KNTH) will be broadcasting his radio show, which focuses on simplifying green for homeowners, live from the Civic Center on Saturday from 1-3 pm. On Sunday, from 11 am – 2 pm, Jim Dutton with Texas Home Improvement (740 KTRH) will be broadcasting his show live as well. “Not only is it always fun to have radio personalities at an event like this – their wealth of knowledge is amazing, and they have live Q&A with homeowners at the show who need their help and solutions,” said Bauer. Residents are encouraged to come by their broadcast booths with relevant questions during their shows.
For those interested in attending the show, tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and military, and may be purchased online or at the door. A $2 coupon is available to online purchasers by visiting the website. Vendor information and schedule for the speakers at the Seminar Series may be found online at http://www.lhaevents.com/ as well.
