Humble ISD recently honored mentors (adult volunteers) and mentees (students) who participated in this year’s Academic Individual Mentor (AIM) program with an awards ceremony and dinner held at Summer Creek High School.  After enjoying a delicious dinner partially underwritten by Trigg’s catering and sponsored by Mr. Sean & Mrs. Cheryl Rea, Mr. Daniel Contreras, Wells Fargo Bank District Branch Manager, Mr. Tim Jackson, President of Sports Prep USA, and Mr. Jay Ellzey, Vice President of Continental Airlines, the award ceremony began.  Hispanic Executive Society International (HESI), was honored with the first award for Outstanding Community Organization for participation in the AIM program and for enrolling over 20 members in the AIM program.  Mr. Joe Ramirez representing HESI accepted the award.

The AIM program provides opportunities for students to participate in a consistent and enriching mentoring relationship.  The program offers an opportunity for students to build relationships with caring adults in a safe and secure environment that enhances the students’ overall learning and behavior management skills to help students understand choices that will impact their lives.

Thousands of hours have gone into the development of this program.  Under guidance from Waymond Wesley, Humble ISD At-Risk Coordinator, the AIM program doubled in size this year and continues to grow.  Local businesses, community groups, influential professionals, and individuals all came together to provide many Humble ISD students much needed advocacy, guidance and support.

“Mentoring works!  Children are the future and they can learn more by having a healthy and encouraging relationship to stay motivated and focused on their education” stated Eva Leisenheimer, Humble ISD Partnerships & Volunteers Specialist “Discover their passions, challenge their minds, and invest in their success and today’s children will protect, grow and ensure our tomorrow”.
