Baby Brandon Brooks is less than four months old, but since doctors diagnosed him with a life-threatening disease, his tiny body has undergone six blood transfusions and countless treatments. On Jan. 30, he was born seven weeks premature to Kingwood parents Mickey and Jimmy Brooks. Because Brandon’s life depends on voluntary blood donations, the public is encouraged to support him at a replenishment blood drive April 30 at Kingwood’s Merry Go Round boutique on Woodland Hills Drive. Learn more about Brandon’s story at www.caringbridge.org/visit/brandonnbrooks.

More than 900 blood donations are needed every day in our region, and those who Commit for Life and donate at least once a quarter can help maintain an adequate blood supply at all times. During the Diamonds for Donors promotion in from April 1 to May 31, those who donate or attempt to donate will receive a scratch-off ticket that could make them the winner of a piece of diamond jewelry, Commit for Life store items or Commit for Life store points.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 30 - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE:
Merry Go Round
3037 Woodland Hills Drive
Kingwood, Texas 77339

For more information, contact Julie Schultz at [email protected]. Visit www.giveblood.org or call 1(888) 482-5663 to schedule your donation.

ABOUT US:
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is asking its donors to Commit for Life. It takes three simple steps: 1) Donate once per quarter; 2) allow The Blood Center to contact you; and 3) spread the word, encouraging others to Commit for Life. The Blood Center is the primary supplier of blood components to more than 220 hospitals and health care facilities in a 25-county Texas Gulf Coast region. Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. Individuals who are 16 years old, at least 122 pounds, in good general health and have their parents’ consent also may donate. The donation process is simple, taking only about one hour. Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is an independent, nonprofit blood center that is not affiliated with the American Red Cross.
