Recently local residents Terry Benton and Sevala Sadic awarded a $500 scholarship to Casey Nichol, a recent Humble High School graduate. At a special meeting held in the school district’s Administration building Mr. Benton, a resident of Kingwood and graduate of the University of Nebraska, presented this special donation to Casey after reading exerts from an essay she wrote when applying for scholarship money through the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Humble High School. Although Casey was not awarded an IB scholarship, Mr. Benton and Ms. Sadic were moved to give this scholarship to Casey after hearing about her quest to attend the University of Nebraska.
“The choice to go to the University of Nebraska was not an easy decision.” said Casey “I will be moving away, away from my family, away from my dad who has taught me so much.” “I don’t know if I would claim to deserve something, especially a scholarship, more than another,” stated Casey “…but I do know that I have worked hard and this scholarship will help me tremendously.”
Quoted by Casey, “Leave a footprint behind, not in the textbooks but in someone’s life and you will have made the biggest difference of all.” Thanks to Terry Benton and Sevala Sadic for making the biggest difference of all to Casey Nichol.
