I think you get more out of Mockingjay if you read all the books (not sure if you read the books or not). Part 1 basically just sets the stage for all of the stuff that happens in part 2, which I'm sure is going to be breathtaking and shocking for those who didn't read the books and don't know how it ends. DH didn't read the books, and didn't re-watch Catching Fire prior to watching Mockingjay Part 1, so some of the stuff just didn't make sense to him. I think you need to at least watch the last 20 minutes of CF for the beginning of MJ to make more sense. I agree, out of the 3 films, this one is the slowest, but it's necessary, as I don't think the final book could feasibly be made into just one movie. The book itself is almost twice as long as the first 2 books, and so much happens. I just hate that I have to wait another year.
Oh, and we tried the AMC Prime, that was nice, Definitely worth the extra money.
