IMO, if you're committing to CFS, then just go all the way or go home. Homemade garlic mashed potatoes, deep-fried cornmeal battered okra and fresh hot cornbread (and cream gravy from the CFS drippings). Maybe some fresh corn on the cob to ease the guilt. Or even better, from-scratch creamed spinach, which will make your CFS seem like a raw kale salad. Emoticon So worth it once in a while! I only do this maybe once/twice a year...the best!

Do you know what you're doing with the CFS? Emoticon

Well I just did garlic Pam mashed potatoes on Thursday with roasted corn. Was thinking of doing greenbean casserole, fresh field peas with cornbread and now thanks to you probably the fried okra.

Fried Okra with CFS is a winner, but you have to do mashed taters too!

Homemade baked mac & cheese is also a hit with CFS. Sounds yummy.

Brightlights....Undecided gave you a pic of what they look like...you can find them at Walmart.
The peas I grew up with are crowder, field peas with snaps, purple hull and creme peas. Of course you can find the blackeye peas but have not seen the others fresh since I was a youth. We used to shell them by the bushel until our thumbs were purple.
mmmm, that with some homemade Chow Chow...even better when you go pull those green onions outta of the ground and wash 'em under the water faucet.

They sell fresh/raw purple hulls at HEB! They're already shelled, though. Emoticon

Love crowders, too.

BrightLights posted a recipe for chicken/sausage gumbo on here a few months ago - I think around Halloween last year - along with detailed instructions.
