"O'Brien's profile is not so different than Kubiak's was when the Texans hired him in 2006. Like Kubiak, O'Brien is a young offensive mind that learned at the feet of a coach with multiple Super Bowl championships.

The move caps a whirlwind career climb for the 44-year-old O'Brien, who was Duke's offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach as recently as 2006. He worked his way up through offensive jobs in New England, taking over as coordinator in 2011. He went 15-9 in two seasons at Penn State, easily topping expectations in 2012 after the program was decimated following the Jerry Sandusky scandal and NCAA sanctions."

@Donnie:

They wont release him just yet, they will try to find a hard up team like jags to try and trade Schaub and his contract for a late round pick like 6th round. No team is going to take his contract so the team will release him right after the draft. For the number 1 pick we will take Teddy Bridgewater.

I wish they would draft clowney from sc and then pick up a qb like bortles from ucf early in the 2nd.

I don't think the Texan have the guts to go with the number 1 pick. I truly hope I am wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if they traded down. I wouldn't have said this last year, but I would take a chance on Johnny Football. I think the reward outweighs the risk. I'm not an Aggie so I'm not going homer. I know he's undersized but hee can make any play and any throw. He could really be special and I would take the gamble. I could be wrong but it would be worth being right.

I think hiring O'Brien pretty much guaranteed that they are going to go quarterback. He can develop one. I'm not sold on O'Brien but I also think they could have done worse. I don't have a feeling towards him one way or the other. I think that it's stupid to say that he's a stand up guy just because he yelled at Tom Brady once. I've heard he ran a good program at Penn State and is a professional. I hope he does well and brings a better staff in, including replacing Wade on the defensive end.

Bridgewater ain't worth the number 1 pick and I believe they know it, but they won't tip their hand.

JF hadn't declared yet.... I am thinking he is considering not coming out.... There are 10 qbs to be drafted in first 4 rounds....

If he does he will be a top 10 pick .... His stick doubled the other night... Leadership and ability.... Reminds me of Drew Bree's

@Drekonix:

It is interesting in that McNair made demeaning comments about coordinators becoming head coaches in the press conference concerning Kubiak's firing...However, head coaches aren't born that way, they have to start somewhere...

Saw some of O'Brien's press conference today...He didn't commit to an offensive or defensive style, said he'd match it to the player strengths...He said the Texans will be more of a flexible gameplan type team as each opponent they face will have different strengths and weaknesses...When asked about quarterback, he refused to put that position above the others in importance saying it's a team game(I didn't expect this and was somewhat impressed by this answer)...Overall, I really liked what he had to say...

This organization does not know what they are doing...11 years in , on our 3rd coach... Had the #1 pick twice and neither are still with the team...
Charley Casserly set this team back 8 years with his disaster of a GM....
I am really not expecting anything different until they prove me wrong.....
I hope for the best and expect the worst
