@rocket:
I find that a bit disturbing as well... 117 out of the 232 cases were family killings. Of those, 83 cases (71%) were done by shooting, and the 34 other (29%) by other means such as stabbing, blunt force, etc.
I wonder what is the criteria for a killing to be considered a "family killing"? Looking at some of the details, I get the impression it is when at least one of the victims is related to the killer. For example:
May 21, 2006 - At his Baton Rouge, La., church, Anthony Bell, 25, opened fire, killing four. He fled with his family at gunpoint. He killed his wife but released their three kids unharmed. His death sentence is on appeal.
In htis case, I would think that should be counted at a public killing and family killing. But then it wouldn't meet the criteria of mass family shooting.

There were so many stories this week and last of very young kids shooting themselves or others. I guess everyone has out their hunting stuff or is trying to protect against holiday crime? Really sad for those babies.
@HumbleGirl:
Responsible gun ownership does not take a break during hunting or the holiday season. Fireams and ammunition need to be stored and locked when not in use... and when in use, the same safety rules apply as the rest of the year.
I don't know if there are more incidents during this season, as you seem to indicate, but safety & responsibility should never take a back seat when handling firearms.
