Dear Hiring Manager,
Did you ever have one of those days when your supervisor assigned you a task, and you knew that due to rules and regulations, you couldn’t follow through?---So, you realized you must come up with a better solution? Perhaps you have experienced similar challenges before. To give you a glance into my Human Resources (HR) skills, I want to share one of my dilemmas with you, and reveal the perfect end results.
We had been outsourcing our IT tech personnel. Management now wanted to hire this person as a full time company employee, BUT, they also wanted me to sign him up for full medical insurance benefits--effective immediately at date of hire. The obstacle---our contract with the insurance company stated that an employee must wait 60 days plus the next first of the month before he/she was eligible for benefits.
Now, before I continue my story, I’d like to pause, and provide you with some background information about me as a Human Resources Professional, demonstrating my knowledge, skills, and abilities that would be useful to your company.
My HR career took off after just one year of employment as the Payroll & Accounts Payable Manager (PR & AP MGR) for 2 small, sister companies. As I continued in my position as PR & AP MGR, I was chosen to simultaneously develop the 2 companies’ first Human Resources department, becoming the company’s first Human Resources Manager. During my tenure, these 2 companies expanded from 2 sites with 65+ employees to 7 sites with 220+ employees. The growth of these companies brought about more diverse and complex workforce issues, which allowed me to capitalize on my strengths of resourcefulness, motivation, and initiative.
