As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Elizabeth and Patrick Buchanan, owners of Family Heating and Air.

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
From the minute you call us about your heater or your air conditioner, we treat you like family. Since 2011, we’ve been family owned and operated, with Patrick doing 95% of the labor type work and Elizabeth working behind the scenes to run the office.  We also have two service techs working with us.
Offering HVAC, heating, air conditioning sales, service and installation, along with duct repair and installation for all types of units, we strive for maximum customer service and to gain a customer for life. When a customer contacts us, they speak to either Patrick or Elizabeth directly.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work?
For over 30 years, Patrick has been in the field working on all types of heating and ac units. He initially began as a builder’s mechanical supervisor, conducting AC unit inspections to evaluate what system was needed for the building construction. Many of our customers call Patrick an “AC genius”.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
We’re most proud of how we run our business with honesty and integrity.  We’ve seen jobs where the customer was sold something that they don’t need.
If it’s broke, we fix it.  We provide exactly what you need to be comfortable in your home or office. We also take pride in our communication approach. If a part has to be ordered, we keep you updated on the delivery status and schedule follow-up service as soon as we receive the ordered part.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
We both love meeting with our customers!  Although Elizabeth typically only meets clients for financing paperwork, she loves it when she can visit face-to-face.
Patrick loves educating customers on every part of their heating and air systems and genuinely loves to fix things.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Any homeowner or business owner who wants peace of mind, knowing that their air conditioning and heating systems are working at peak condition 24 hours a day. Our customers love that we take the time to understand their needs and wants for these systems.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
Besides offering maintenance and service plans, we make sure our customer’s equipment gets fixed, working with them on payment arrangements if needed. We don’t want people to be too hot or cold just because of a cash flow issue.
Those who mention this article can receive $10 off a service call (service call regularly priced at $69). We also offer discounts for seniors, military, and first responders, as well as financing options on our website. How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We look forward to continuing to grow our business by word of mouth and adding more small commercial accounts. We also hope to add another tech this next summer.
