As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Tim Turnbow of Natural Forces Massage.
Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
In June 2008 I started my massage therapy career in hopes to one day open my own clinic. After working at several different massage chains over the years, I learned the ins and outs of the massage business. After 10 years of being a therapist, my clientele was just too much for me to do on my own, so I decided I needed to do something more. On April 23, 2018, I opened Natural Forces Massage.
We offer a variety of services including: triggerpoint therapy, deep tissue, prenatal, hot stone, couples’ massage, sports massage, therapeutic massage, cupping, myo facial, and Swedish massage.
How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
I became a massage therapist because I wanted to be in a career where I could help people with pain relief and prevention. With my mom being disabled, I wanted to be able to provide her with relief. My business got started after years of building clients at different massage places and my client building up to more than I could handle alone; I knew it was time to expand.
Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
I have always been a good massage therapist, for pain relief, and I have worked hard on training my team of therapists to be knowledgeable on knowing how to work with any kind of pain that walks through the door. We all have similar techniques but at the same time we each have something greater that sets us apart.
Another reason I opened my business was because I saw working at other massage places clients were only viewed as dollar signs while at Natural Forces Massage, we aim to treat everyone as individuals and show them how much we care about them. We are not contract based, instead we do packages so people can use them when they want. We also offer referral discounts of $25 off to each referred client to show our appreciation to you and our community.
Natural Forces Massage customizes the massage to fit each client’s needs and with great communication between each other throughout the massage a client feels they can go to any of the therapist for a great massage when unable to book with their existing therapist. Furthermore, some massage places that only give you a 50-minute massage, we give the full hour.
What is your favorite part of running this business?
I love providing relief for people who have never had it before and seeing their reaction when they come out and feel better, for once. Just the overall satisfaction of knowing I’m making a difference in people’s lives and giving them something to look forward to makes me feel better as a person overall.
Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Typically, our clientele is for pain relief or prevention. Our clientele tends to be athletes and people who are injured or have been injured. However, we do work on people who just need to relax from the stresses of life as well.
Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
I am married and have 2 kids. We are Christians and want to apply those principles to running our business. This just means we treat people with love, respect, and generosity.
Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
From now until December 15th we are gathering raffle tickets for our own 10 days to Christmas. You receive a raffle ticket if you buy a gift card or if someone buys a package of 3, they get one ticket and two tickets if they purchase a package of 6. Starting the 15th we will be drawing a ticket every day, for ten days on our Facebook page.
Also, on black Friday all gift cards for a new client will be $30 and all gift cards for any existing client will be $53.
Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
The introductory price for an hour massage is only $45. We do 30, 60, 90, and 120-minute massages and we offer packages of 3 and 6 for the 60, 90, and 120-minute massages. Again, we offer $25 off for referrals.
How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
In the first 6 months of being open we had 491 new clients and I would like to double that or more by a year. I would like to find different ways to get involved with the community, in several ways that way we can help people outside of our location as well. As we improve, and finances improve we will even sponsor organizations around the area.
