As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Jouvonna Gray, owner of Get Well Health Clinic.

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
In October of 2015, we started in a small office in North Houston. As the number of patients increased, we transitioned to a larger office space in a strip center on 1960, providing affordable healthcare for the sick on a cash or self-pay basis. Offering primary health care services for adults, children and senior citizens, we are a walk-in clinic with no appointments needed.
With other clinic locations in Katy and Lufkin, we will be expanding shortly to another location on Sam Houston Parkway North by the EZTag store, serving the Generation Parkway community.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work?
Beginning my career as a dialysis nurse 15 years ago, I decided it was time for a change. I attended The University of Texas Medical Branch and obtained a degree as a family nurse practitioner. I continuously saw the rising costs of healthcare.
In 2015, I decided I wanted to cut out the middleman and provide better care at affordable prices without insurance by opening my own health care clinic … a clinic that has no hidden fees.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business.  What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
I’m most proud of our top-rated online reviews. Our patients say our clinic facility is clean and that they feel like they are treated like family. We do see each of our patients as a member of our family and know everyone on a first-name basis. We’re also known for our service back to the community.
Also, we now offer tele-medicine option for our patients. Now, there’s no reason to leave home or wherever you are when you are sick. Patients can speak with a nurse practitioner via phone or laptop. Consultations are provided face-to-face with our health care providers or patients can send pictures via a secure link for review by our nursing staff. We want to break barriers that prevent patients from receiving immediate care without having to wait a week to be seen.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
I love taking care of families… mom, dad, children, every family member.  Being a nurse practitioner, individual one-on-one patient care is extremely important to me.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Most of our patients are women between the ages of 20 and 40 who want to lose weight. However, we’ve seen a lot more entrepreneurs coming in this year who are under-insured or uninsured who want quality health care at a fair price and who also want the schedule flexibility that we offer.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
Many of our patients have high deductibles on their insurance and come to us because we offer a lower deductible with their insurance coverage, typically $60 for an office visit and treatment. Our customers want to know what their payment will be upfront. They want to be seen today, pay for only those services that they need and get back to work or school.
Also, to those who mention this article, we offer a $50 weight loss office visit that includes a prescription for appetite suppressants. Check out our website or visit our Facebook page to learn more about our weight loss program, hormone replacement therapy, vaccines and other services.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We are focused on growing our reputation of being a small cashed-based clinic that gets to know the members of our communities and provides quality healthcare at an affordable price.
With government grants, I do hope to open a free health care clinic in the future that will treat everybody regardless of their ability to pay.
