As part of our ongoing "Getting to
Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Brittney Mittag, Owner of K & S Sportswear.
Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
We’re
a screen print, embroidery, and promotional items family-owned business
with 23+ years of operation. We’re approved vendors for Humble ISD,
Crosby ISD, Huffman ISD, New Caney ISD, and the Lone Star College
System. We help local businesses, schools, churches, and corporations
with all their apparel needs! We also service customers across the USA
by drop shipping their orders right to their office.
How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
My
parents, Steve and Katy Weirich, started this business over 20 years
ago and I’m a proud second generation owner! They needed another source
of income to set them up for success and to be able to retire one day.
I’m happy to say they are both enjoying retirement while I now run the
day to day operations!
Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
Our
quality customer service – we pride ourselves on it and always treat
people with kindness and respect. We also support a few local nonprofit
organizations which are near & dear to our hearts and always do our
best to support our local schools – we believe in giving back to our
community who has given so much to us over the years. We did a t-shirt
fundraiser for Humble ISD after hurricane Harvey devastated our area –
I’m proud to say that 100% of the proceeds went directly to the Humble
ISD Education Foundation as a $33,000 donation!
What is your favorite part of running this business?
Not
one day is the same! Every order we do is custom and we work with a
variety of customer with a variety of needs, day in and day out. Seeing a
smile on our customer’s face when they see their finished order is
priceless!
Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Anyone!
We work with everyone in our community, from schools to churches &
nonprofit organizations to local small business to corporate clients who
have offices across the USA.
Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
My
parents started this business over 20 years ago and I’m proud to carry
on their hard work, quality customer service, and dedication to being a
small business owner. I graduated from Texas A&M University and
worked in corporate human resources for 5 years before joining the
family business. I’m a product of Humble ISD and grew up in this
community, so now raising my own family here and owing a business here
is very rewarding!
Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
Our
anniversary is in May each year so be on the lookout for our annual
anniversary special – this year it’s a t-shirt special – 72 colored
t-shirts with 1-color white front print for $5.00 each!
We send out
weekly emails with current specials or trending items. We also update
our Facebook page daily with samples of our work, community events, or
trending ideas.
How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
Our
goal as a business is always to grow, learn, and improve as much as
possible! Because everything we do is pretty custom, there is always an
opportunity to service a new customer/business/need which fosters our
learning and growth. We will always maintain our quality customer
service above all.
