As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Jena Massie, Owner of Serenity Massage P.L.L.C.

Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?

Serenity Massage P.L.L.C. was established in April of 2012. Our philosophy is to provide therapeutic massage therapy to improve the health and well-being of our clients, to provide continuing education courses for Licensed Massage Therapists to improve their understanding of bodywork, and to share our knowledge of the massage therapy field with students interested in starting a new career.

Serenity Massage P.L.L.C. offers several types of bodywork including: Traditional Thai Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Cellulite Massage, Lymphatic Drainage Massage, Sports Massage, Reflexology, Chair Massage, Pre-natal Massage, Trigger-Point Therapy, Neuro-muscular Therapy, Deep-Tissue Massage, Specialized Massage for Sports Injuries, Side-lying Massage, Hydrotherapy, Facials, Body Wraps, Salt Scrubs, Hand and Foot Treatments, and Discounted Services by Student Interns. Please call for your moment of escape today.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
I went to massage school when I was 17 and still a Junior in High School to be able to use the massage therapy trade to pay for my own college tuition. I started my own business immediately and worked at another massage school for 10 years before opening my own massage school.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?

Serenity Massage P.L.L.C. is among a very small group of companies that have won the Best of Kingwood Award for four consecutive years. This has awarded Serenity Massage P.L.L.C. with the distinguished 2016 and 2017 Kingwood Business Hall of Fame Award.

Serenity Massage P.L.L.C. offers customized therapeutic massage by experienced therapists and we do not force our clients to purchase memberships to be able to afford regular massages. We are the only school in the state of Texas that offers an advanced massage therapy training course of 650 hours compared to the state minimum 500 hour requirement.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
I am actively involved in every aspect of my business from teaching in the classroom, to providing multiple massages each day, to finance, to accounting, to marketing. You name it I do it all including being a sign holder for my company. This passion and drive to be committed to my business makes my staff want to strive to do and be their best each and every day. Instilling this type of work ethics allows my staff to be held to a very high standard which is reflected in their quality of their work.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?

Most of our clients are referred to us by our word of mouth referrals. We specialize in therapeutic massage which includes several different types of massage services to be able to reduce our client’s pain and improve their quality of life. We offer a basic relaxing massage but focus mainly on lymphatic drainage, deep-tissue massage, trigger-point therapy, sports massage, cupping treatments, and spa services that allow our clients to function more efficiently. Most of our clients are in the age range of 45-65, they are business owners, professionals, or athletes, and they receive weekly massages from our team of providers.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
After attending massage school in High School, I used my massage license to run my own business. This allowed me to pay my own college tuition to graduate from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a major in Finance. I have used this education to run my company with a conservative financial risk mind set.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?

Please visit our Facebook page Facebook.com/SerenityMassageP.L.L.C. to find exclusive discounts, to participate in drawings for free services, and to know when we are offering free services from our students in the classroom.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
We do offer appointments for services seven days a week for your convenience. We start new massage therapy school classes every 5 to 7 weeks and we offer a basic 500 hour program or an advanced 650 hour program. We offer day classes that take 5 months to graduate from and we offer evening classes that take 9 months to graduate from.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?

We are currently growing at a tremendous rate with new clients visiting every day. When we reach our current capacity, we will open new locations and additional massage therapy school campuses to service more communities.
