As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Brandon Miller, co-founder of High Maintenance.

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?

We are a Commercial Lawn and Landscape Management Company and have been serving small to large commercial properties, such as apartment buildings, retail centers, banks, business complexes and condos, for the past three years.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?

My business partner, Doug Brittain, and I wanted to start a business in an industry that lacked good communication, accessibility and customer service. In general, most Commercial Landscaping providers struggle to communicate. We left comfortable, well-paying jobs in the Oil & Gas and Tire industries to create an outdoor company that our customers respect and love. We are hometown guys that work, live, eat and sleep here with our wives and children … all of our work is performed and supervised by my partner and I. We take pride in our work.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
We are known for our catchy and unique business name … which was “loosely” named after our wives <LOL>.  Mostly, we are known for providing quality commercial lawn maintenance and landscaping services, including debris removal, tree pruning, irrigation setup and maintenance, building retaining walls, and more – at prices our clients can afford.  Our customers notice how accessible we are and how superior our customer service is.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
My partner and I enjoy improving the curb appeal of business properties and staying on the property until the job is completely finished. We also enjoy helping out our neighbors; we’ve been focused on helping our friends and customers after the flood by cleaning out debris and tearing out carpet.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Our ideal customers/clients are property managers and community association managers.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
For our commercial customers, we consistently offer monthly payment arrangements and accept HOA payments.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
Bonded and insured, we not only service locally owned businesses; we also service properties on the North and East sides of Houston.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We want to double our business in 2018, focusing more on direct marketing to commercial real estate managers.
