Interview with Brandon Farris, Owner of Farris Home Services - Atascocita

As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Brandon Farris, Owner of Farris Home Services.

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
Farris Home Services offers: Christmas Lights, Pressure Washing, and Window Cleaning. All the services are seasonal jobs, so it keeps us busy all year. We are a family operated business and officially started in 2014. We service over 400 customers a year and we are rapidly growing. Christmas Season is our busiest time of the year, installing lights on over 200 properties.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
I am very big on FAMILY! The line of work I was in before, forced me to be out of town working a lot, I missed all the special events and memories with my family. It is very hard being away from your family for long periods of time. I didn’t want my family to go through it anymore, so I started this company part time. When I would leave for work offshore, my wife would run the business at home. With a baby on the way, I took a leap of faith in 2015. I quit my offshore job and put everything I had into the business, it’s the best decision I have ever made.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
We are well known for our great customer service. We aren’t here to sale you anything or try to persuade you to pick us. We do not want to sound like the car sales man down the road. We communicate with all our customers in a normal, friendly fashion. Our prices aren’t jacked up, you talk to the owner direct, we are you locally family owned business. Most of my customers talk to me through text, just like they would a friend. We want you to feel comfortable as possible. Our team works hard to make that happen too.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
I love being able to help the community. We are a small family owned business, so our prices are low and our quality is high. I just love my job and being able to help so many people.

The best thing about owning my own business is being able to be with my family. I recently had my first son in March of 2016 and I now have the luxury to be there through it all. I make my own schedule, I don’t miss any major events or activities my kids have. It is such a blessing to be able to spend the time I do with them and still have a job that pays the bills. I am thankful for that every day.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
An ideal customer is anyone who we can help with the services we offer. If it is installing Christmas Lights, or changing a light bulb, we are here to help the community.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
I come from the oil field, which means a lot of time spent away from the family! I traveled the world and worked on derrick rigs in the gulf. I have also been a certified welder for the past 5 years and can build pretty much anything. I like the saying, “Jack of all trades master of none.”

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
We have an early bird special, that we offer in October. This is the best promotion we offer all year. We have close to 100 customer that have their lights installed in October Those customers just leave the lights off until they are ready to turn on. They save about 25%, just by allowing us to install in October.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
Our Christmas program isn’t like the ordinary companies: Go to Walmart, buy some lights, hang them, box them and hopefully do it again next year. Our process is A LOT different. We take A LOT of pride in installing lights. There is an art to it and we LOVE it!!!!

First off, all our lights are leased, we DO NOT sale any products. We lease our lights, which are all LED, best lights on the market. Every home receives custom cut lights to fit their home perfectly, like a glove. Our customers love this method, this means no more: ladders, storing lights, blowing fuses, go through tangled lights, or replacing old lights, etc...

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We grow from our customers!!! The extra effort and time we put in for our customers, really makes a BIG difference! They leave great reviews and they help spread the word about our company. We strive for customer satisfaction!
