Registration for the eighth annual Lake Houston 10K 5K presented by Memorial Hermann is underway. Hosted by the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce, the sanctioned race will take place on the morning of Saturday, August 19 at Kings Harbor on Lake Houston.

Last year's event proved successful with more than 900 runners from across the state, country and overseas. This year, the Chamber is preparing for more than 1,000 participants.

“This event has grown into a great experience for our community,” said Corey Turner, ad director with HCN Media Group and Co-Race Director. “This year we want to take it to a new level with record registration. We attract runners from all over the world, but there is something for everyone in the family at our race.”

The 10K race is scheduled to start at 7:00 a.m. and the 5K race is scheduled to start at 7:15 a.m. The course begins and ends at King's Harbor in Kingwood, is mostly shaded and boasts picturesque views of Lake Houston and the Kingwood area.

Online registration is available at LakeHouston10k5k.com. Race participants are guaranteed an official race shirt if they register by Wednesday, August 2. Early Bird prices are $35 for the 10K and $30 for the 5K. After July 14, prices increase to $40 for the 10K and $35 for the 5K. Race day registration will be available for $40 for the 5K and $45 for the 10K until 6:40 a.m. on August 19. Shirts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Due to safety reasons, attendees wishing to participate with strollers will only be permitted to run or walk in the 5K race and must allow all other participants to start the race before them.

This race is chip-timed and is a USATF certified sanctioned race that offers a prize of $500 to the overall top male and female runners in the 10K race and $250 to the overall top male and female in the 5K race. Every runner will receive a finisher medal. Official race medals are awarded to first, second, and third place male and female finishers in the following categories: 18 & under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and over 70.

"The Lake Houston 10K 5K is an extraordinary event that brings the community together," said Josh Arkless, realtor with Keller Williams Northeast and 2017 Co-Race Director. "As the race grows, so does our focus to continue to provide the ultimate race day experience for every walker and runner. We have a dedicated group of volunteers, sponsors and race participants who strive to make this year’s race our best so far. We look forward to August 19 to show how great our community is when we all come together for a day of health and wellness.”

Sponsors for the event include Presenting Sponsor Memorial Hermann Northeast and Gold Sponsors Dockline Magazine and Waste Connections of Texas. The race will feature a Kids Zone, thanks to sponsor Generation Park.

Volunteers are needed on race day. To volunteer, register online at LakeHouston10k5k.com or contact Chris O’Dell at [email protected]. Sponsorships and vendor booths are still available for member-businesses of the Chamber. Contact Chris O’Dell for more information at [email protected]
