As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Andrea Schoel of Primrose School of Kingwood.

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
Primrose offers premier childcare services, providing a loving, warm and clean environment, with teachers and staff who will enrich the minds, bodies, and spirits of young children. We offer full-time and part-time services, and fun summer camps during school holidays. We care for infants through kindergarten, and after-school care for elementary students. Primrose is a franchise and we own two locations, with one more “on the way.” Our Fall Creek location in Humble has been opened since 2005, Primrose of Kingwood on Green Oak since 2009, and our new Primrose Kingwood at Oakhurst will be opening Summer 2017.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
Before Primrose, we each had successful careers – myself (Andrea) as a nurse and John as a business analyst. After the birth of our first child in 2002, we made the choice to enroll him at our closest Primrose at the time which was down in Sugar Land. We did a lot of research in choosing a child care provider and we found Primrose to be the best fit for our family. As our family’s experience with the school evolved, we decided to make a family-focused career change and go into business together, opening our own Primrose facility. We moved up to this area and started our new adventure! Finally, in December 2005, we opened Primrose School at Fall Creek and fulfilled our goal of owning a rewarding business where we could work with children all day and make families happy and joyful.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
Our Curriculum is what really sets Primrose apart. We call the curriculum “Balanced Learning” and it is completely research-informed, blending philosophies from the most influential early child development theorists like Montessori, Piaget, and Vygotsky with modern wisdom from the most current research. Primrose Schools Corporation provides us the well-written curriculum which is developed by a panel of nationally recognized experts who regularly assess and continuously innovate. This ensures the curriculum is aligned with leading philosophies and meets the latest early learning standards.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
The best part about running this business is the children! They are the reason for everything!

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Ideal clients are working parents searching for a child care facility that will deliver more than just “daycare”. We strive to give children the right foundation for a lifetime of learning.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We are primed and ready to spread quality early childhood education to more and more families in the area! At our Green Oak location, we still hear the words “We didn’t know you were back here!” and it is heartbreaking. Every family in Kingwood should tour our facilities and see for themselves what Primrose has to offer. We are currently building our third location on Northpark Drive, west of 59 at the south entrance to the Oakhurst subdivision. We will open in summer 2017. We hope to provide much needed quality childcare to families in the area. We hope families north of Kingwood discover our location and fall in love with Primrose!
