As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Melissa D. Chavez of Red Door Realty.

Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?

I offer real estate services to Buyers, Sellers and Renters, Residential and Commercial.  Whether you are looking to buy, sell, lease, residential or commercial, I can help.  Do you have a Probate/Estate Sale or Divorce situation, I can assist! I have over 11 years of experience in real estate and I have over 15 years in legal experience.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?

As a former paralegal, I assisted attorneys with documents, trial preparation, client interviews, and tax matters.  I felt my legal background assisting the public with insurance defense and real estate matters, transitioned and prepared me well for real estate.  I feel I am experienced and can guide the public on a more personal level with the in’s and out’s of contracts and agency.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?

Customer service driven.  I answer my own calls and emails, promptly and/or immediately. I speak Spanish fluently and this enables me to assist the Spanish-speaking community.  Giving confidence to buyers who think they “can’t” ever buy a home, Spanish or English, and empowering them with the proper tools and local resources to “CAN and WILL” buy a home, I feel separates me from most other agents.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
Every day is a new experience with the variety of personalities and characters of homes and the public and my favorite part of my business is each unique experience I can create with my home buyers and sellers, and the impressions my clients leave with me.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
A nervous or anxious Buyer or Seller.  My business is dependent upon both Buyers and Sellers looking to do either or both.  I thoroughly enjoy First Time Home Buyers and a Seller who needs to list AND buy.  The stress offset to me for both type of clients is who I serve best.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?

I assist my Sellers who are also my buyers with creative ways to keep more money in their pocket in order to buy that next home – all year long.  I offer a rebate to Veterans, Public Servants, Teachers and a home warranty to my clients.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?

Buying or Selling anywhere in the Greater Houston area Metro-plex, I can help! From Livingston/Onalaska, Beaumont, Kingwood, Spring, Tomball, Pasadena, Downtown Houston, Katy, to Lake Jackson, my business takes me all over.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
My real estate business is a roller-coaster ride, very unpredictable.  However, by continuing my education every year and already having my Certified Negotiation Expert designation and working on my Broker’s license in 2017, this will allow me to prove to the public I am here to stay and assist all those who need my service in real estate.
