As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Five Star Painting.

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
Five Star Painting, North Houston is a family owned business that focuses on solving painting-related problems and in serving customers. We specialize in solving interior and exterior painting and repair problems for our residential and light commercial customers.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
Stuart Averett launched Five Star Painting, North Houston in 2013 following a career in the corporate world. His goal was to create a successful company and provide a valuable, high-quality service to customers.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
Five Star Painting, North Houston is a young and growing company. We provide a personalized approach to understanding each of our customers’ goals. We often do a lot of educating when we meet customers for the first time. This helps us to scope out projects that provide the best value for money – and achieve our customers’ goals.

What is your favorite part of running this business?

It is always a big moment when a customer sees the first bits of color going onto his or her home or office. It’s the first time that they can actually see the colors that they have only imagined. The only thing that tops seeing the first bits of color is seeing the completed project. We often hear comments like “That’s amazing.” or “Why did I wait so long to paint?” or “I can’t wait for my spouse to see the finished painting.”

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
We especially enjoy working with customers who recognize the value of the investment they have in their home or commercial property and are comfortable working as a member of our team on their project. We encourage customers to watch us at work as much as possible and give us feedback all along the way.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
Stuart Averett launched Five Star Painting, North Houston in 2013 after a long career in internal communications in the corporate world. He was looking forward to the challenge of launching a business and making it succeed.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
As our business continues to grow, we plan to look to the community where we earn our living for ways that we can give back. We also plan to hire locally as we grow.
