As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Yolanda Nettles of 3-way Instruction Driving School.

Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
3-Way Instruction is a brand new driving school looking to make a name for ourselves. We opened in June of 2016 offering driver education to teens ages 15-17 and adults 18-24 classroom and/or behind-the-wheel instruction. As the owner, I'm glad to make your acquaintance!

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
After pondering a couple of career choices, narrowing down the desires of my heart, and being a single parent to 6 of the best children in the world, I decided to open a driver education school. Most of my greatest and rewarding moments in life have been working with children, especially the ones some consider to have smart mouths (teenagers). They keep my days adventurous and teaching them how to drive can be quite dangerous; but someone has to do it! I accept the challenge daily.

What is your favorite part of running this business?

I am having a blast listening to the stories about how my students have been correcting their parents' driving and how they should be setting a positive example for them. It is feedback like this that lets me know my students are not just anxious to hit the road, but are learning in the process to be a safe, aware, and responsible driver. I am known as an awesome, fun, and a great teacher! My genuine love for children is what separates us from our competitors. When you love someone, you want the best for them.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?

My ideal customers are teenagers because this is the metamorphosis stage of their lives. I like to help with the nurturing of their bloom from a teen to an adult.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?

I am a proud mother of 6 children, which has tremendously impacted my world and my decision to be a business owner. I do not want to miss a moment!

I taught in Crosby and Humble ISD. Prior to teaching, I owned my own hair salon for many years, but the hours were just too long. In my spare time, I write books, enjoying movies & food, and time with my family.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?

We have a May Madness special! School is almost out! Parents who are ready for their child to run errands for them can mention this interview and receive $55 off on Teen Driver Education for the month of May! (This Includes Classroom & Behind the Wheel Instruction ONLY).

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
Since we decided to bring the business to your area, take full advantage of our availability. A waiting list is seen in our forecast!

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?

Within the first month, our school doubled our enrollment! As the students return to school, we anticipate holding two evening classes during the school year. Within a couple of years, our goal is to open our next location and offer the driving test to our clients (no more waiting in line at the DPS office).
