Lone Star College Offers Assistance to Flood Victims - Atascocita

Lone Star College students, faculty and staff are working together to offer assistance to those impacted by the recent flood. Several programs and services will be offered at LSC locations.

“Lone Star College is a part of this community and many of our neighbors and friends are dealing with the aftermath of this horrible storm,” said Dr. Stephen C. Head, LSC chancellor. “I am very proud of how our team is pulling together to help people get back on their feet again as quickly as possible.”

Special grants are available for LSC students and employees who have suffered from flood-related damages. Limited funds are available and all funds will be awarded by April 29.  Students and employees interested in this assistance are urged to contact their college president’s office for more information.

LSC has put together several resources aimed at helping students, faculty and staff, as well as community members directly affected by the flooding this week.

LSC-Kingwood
A “Just Ask – Flood Recovery” table has been set up in the SCC Building downstairs atrium that will be open from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. Friday, April 22 and all next week. Trained volunteers staffing this table will have information about how to apply for LSC Foundation flood aid funds, where to pick up school supplies and other general supplies, and a list of nonprofits in the area offering help.

Lone Star Legal Aid is offering free legal services April 26, Tuesday. There will be resources to help disaster victims, especially those who are low-income and/or uninsured/underinsured.  Two sessions will be held in the SCC Building conference room. The first is from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. and the second is from 6 - 7 p.m.  Private free consultations are available after each session.

Starting Monday, April 25, school supplies and other essential supplies are being collected and dispersed in CLA Building Room 115 by the Office of Technology Services. Members of the LSC-Kingwood Alpha Lambda Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa are organizing this service. They will try to match needs with their supplies as best they can.

LSC-CyFair
Linda Good, LSCS Board of Trustees chair and directing attorney for Pro Bono and Disaster Response Units with Lone Star Legal Aid, is offering free legal services presentations:

· LSC-CyFair: April 28, 11, a.m. -12:30 p.m. and 4:30 – 6 p.m. in the Center for Academic and Student Affairs (CASA) Room 107.
· LSC-Fairbanks Center: April 29, 8:30 – 10 a.m. in Room 106.
· LSC-Cypress Center: April 29, noon – 1:30 p.m., in Room 106/107.

In addition, Flood Recovery Resource Centers will be available at:

LSC-CyFair: Hallway of CASA Building and the Cafeteria.
LSC-Fairbanks Center: Entrance /Lobby Area.
LSC-Cypress Center: Entrance/Lobby Area.

LSC-CyFair Phi Theta Kappa is organizing a collection of school supplies and general relief supplies. Contact [email protected]  or [email protected] for more information. Anyone interested in volunteering their time to assist in our relief efforts should contact Dean Ashlie Resendez at [email protected]

LSC-Montgomery
Relief centers will be set up at LSC-Montgomery Building C in the Maverick Center and at LSC-Conroe Center CC-105 Monday, April 25 – Friday, April 29. This effort is to assist all LSC-Montgomery students, faculty and staff affected by the floods.

Both relief centers will have:

· House cleaning kits, personal hygiene items and pet items organized by LSC-Montgomery Beta Delta Iota Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.
· Counselors and counseling services.
· Information on flood relief assistance.
· Applications for LSC Foundation grants for students and employees affected by the floods.
· Extended food pantry hours (LSC-Montgomery only).

Lone Star Legal Aid is offering free legal services to help disaster victims, especially those who are low-income and/or uninsured/underinsured Wednesday, April 27. Two sessions will be held at LSC-Montgomery in Room G102 beginning at 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Private, free consultations are available after each session. LSC-Conroe Center will be included via technology.

LSC-North Harris
LSC-North Harris Phi Theta Kappa Chapters are organizing a collection of school supplies and general relief funds. Contact Laura Dupree, 281-765-7737 or Lynda Dodgen, 281-618-5536. Items included are apparel, baby supplies, cleaning supplies, pet supplies, food, household supplies, personal hygiene, water, gift cards and school supplies (paper, binders, pens, backpacks, books, etc.).

The Women’s Resource Center is collecting clothing (gently used). Contact Cassandra Boyd 281-765-7936 or Kristina Raymond 281-618-5557.

Those needing items are asked to complete a request form.

Lone Star Legal Aid is offering free legal services presentations and on-site assistance. They are open to both students and the public:

· LSC-North Harris: Monday, April 25, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in SSB Conference Center
· LSC-Greenspoint Center: Saturday, April 30, at 9 a.m. in Room 103
· LSC-Victory Center:  Saturday, May 7, at 9 a.m. in Room 110

Additionally, LSC-Victory Center and LSC-Greenspoint Center are also accepting and distributing donations of school supplies and general relief items. 

LSC-Tomball
A “Relief Central” will be in operation Monday, April 25 – Friday, April 29, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. in North Hall Room N103. If you or someone you know was impacted, please visit for information on how to receive food, supplies and financial support.

Lone Star Legal Aid is offering free legal services presentations and on-site assistance, especially those who are low-income and/or uninsured/underinsured.

These sessions will take place:

· Monday, May 2, noon – 1 p.m. (Room N103)
· Tuesday, May 3, 6 – 7 p.m. (Room N103)

LSC-University Park
The Lion Heart Assistance Effort headquartered in the Information Center has information for students, faculty and staff who have been affected by the storms and flooding. The Information Center is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is located near the entrance from Parking Garages 10 & 11. Students are urged to visit the Information Center if they have been personally impacted by the disaster to get an application packet for a monetary grant, a special textbook replacement grant from LSC-University Park and to learn about other avenues of relief.

Lone Star Legal Aid is offering free legal services presentations and on-site assistance at LSC-University Park Wednesday, May 4, at noon and 6 p.m.
