Tamales, where is the best place to get them? I really like Granny's Tamales, the jalapeno cheese ones. Looking to try even more.

You might try some from Dos Gallos. They have them advertised for $12 a dozen. I have had them on some of their dishes and they are good!

Alamo on Berry RD has the best I've had in Houston.

I second Alamo on Berry! Granny's has gone way downhill. All masa and very little filling. The machine made ones are even worse...super slimy!

Agree that Alamo has the best, but you have to get the hand-made tamales. Their machine-made are not all that good.

@mw3538 : I love Granny's pork and beef ones no sauce, but I have a friend whose Mom makes totally killer Pork ones with tons of Masa. Unfortunately I can't shed them once I eat them so am trying to steer clear. It is so hard, I'm severely addicted.

If I'm not going to eat the ones I make myself, then I'll always reach for a dozen of anything from Delia's Tamales. They don't have any locations here in Houston, (as they are stationed in McAllen) but you can order them online. Better hurry if ya want some in time for Chrsitmas, during this time of year they always get swamped and they stop shipping out orders around the middle of the month.

I know El Jalapeno is not too popular with the regulars, but I eat there about twice a week. They sell handmade tamales (the Grandma makes them every Tuesday) to go for $10.50. They are good.
