Caution boaters - San Jacinto River/Lake Houston

Dredging is continuing throughout the San Jacinto River and Lake Houston!

The Houston Police Department's Lake Patrol Division does a tremendous job letting Dave Martin's office know about potential hazards so he can keep residents well informed.

Dredging crews have removed the large island at the mouth/opening of the East Fork of the San Jacinto River leaving an area that is only shin deep.

HPD - Lake Patrol has placed 10 buoys around the area to mark it and make boaters aware it gets very shallow.

If you are going from the Lake to the East Fork stay to the right (east) of the buoys and if you are going from the East Fork to the Lake stay to the left (east) of the buoys.

Please use extreme caution around the area near the opening of the East Fork of the San Jacinto River.

I know those sand bars well... Emoticon

Go slow watching your depth finder until you finde a safe route. I specifically bought a GPS fish finder with a decent sized screen to navigate the sand bars and stumps in this lake.

@ginx : There is one island off the picture to the north that people camp on quite regularly. See tents set up on Saturday mornings when we are in East End Park. I wonder if the campers realize they are being checked out with scopes and binoculars

I wonder why they didn't dredge it deeper than that.
