Memorial Hermann to Open New School-Based Health Center in Humble ISD

Memorial Hermann Health System is proud to announce its plans to build and operate a new school-based health center in the Humble Independent School District in 2022. The clinic, which will be open to students in Humble ISD, will provide access to health services throughout the year.

The Northeast Hospital Authority pledged $3.9 million to open and operate the clinic, which will provide services at no charge to families who might not have access to any type of health care. Parental consent is required for any service.

Services include:

Well exams and sports physicals
Sick visits
Preventative health care, including immunizations and health education
Mental health counseling, including ADHD
Nutritional counseling
Assistance applying for insurance programs and other health and social services

The center will be located on the Humble High School campus, which includes Guy M. Sconzo Early College High School, Ross Sterling Middle School and Lakeland Elementary School, and may serve other schools in the district as well. Transportation from schools will be provided by Humble ISD transportation as needed.

“We are excited to bring our school-based healthcare model to Humble ISD,” said Carol Paret, Senior Vice President and Chief Community Health Officer for Memorial Hermann. “We know that working together we can improve the health of the district’s students, which will help them in and out of the classroom.”

Memorial Hermann Health Centers for Schools program collaborates with community partners and schools to assist families with needed health services. This new center will be a health home for Humble ISD students, and the goal is not only to improve students’ health status but also to enhance their educational outcomes and, over time, break the cycle of poverty.

“Humble ISD welcomes the expansion of its long-standing partnership with Memorial Hermann through the addition of the new school-based health center,” said Humble ISD Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Fagen. “Memorial Hermann has previously provided physicals and sports medicine to Humble ISD student athletes and expertise to Humble ISD administrators on COVID-19 precautions. Our organizations share a commitment to helping children grow to lead happy, healthy, fulfilling lives, and the new center will provide opportunities in Humble ISD for families to receive health care like never before.”

The Northeast Hospital Authority is responsible for bringing health care to the residents of what is now known as the Lake Houston area. Since 2007, the Northeast Hospital Authority and Memorial Hermann have partnered in providing health care to the residents of Humble and the surrounding communities. In addition to the new health center, the Authority has recently provided millions of dollars to fund Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital’s NICU expansion, the relocation and enhancement of the campus’s Infusion Suite, and the renovation and expansion of the hospital’s Women’s Services that will be completed in 2022. The new school based health center is another example of a creative way to meet the needs of the community it serves and ensure that all students have access to health and wellness services.

@eksda : Yeah. I noticed that when we moved here that it seems a little scarce with regard to hospitals and primary care physicians.
