Hurricane Laura Lake Houston Area Update

Loading Image...

Hurricane Laura remains mostly a wind event for the Lake Houston Area, please secure all outdoor furniture, shoreline property, and make preparations to shelter in place this evening.

Lake Houston has been successfully lowered over night 8/26/2020 to approximately 41 feet which is 1.5 feet below normal pool. The forecast remains at 2 - 4 inches of rain across the Lake Houston Watershed. To monitor Lake Houston levels visit www.coastalwaterauth ority.org/

Rainfall amounts can be monitored here: www.harriscountyfws. org/

Lake Conroe's level is still down 1.5 feet and is not going to be lowered at this time. Montgomery County and our partners to the north are not expecting a large rain. The San Jacinto River Authority is in communication with the City of Houston should anything change. www.sjra.net/

Getting a little concerned as Laura has not begun her pivot yet. Now a category 4 and can overcome steering influences more at this strength. See what 4 pm advisory says.

@ParksideRes :
I was watching this too. Wasn't it expected to move more north if it intensified so quickly? Which it has.

@texas2011 : it was expected to start turning northward. It hasn't started yet though. It's gotta start making a hard turn soon or we may see more West side of that cone. Perhaps well inside Texas. IDK, having hard time finding data recently except for published advisories. Waiting on the 4pm one.

There are so many people I know living in the Golden Triangle and north of there not taking this serious.
Instead of planning for the worse, and hoping for the best, they are just hoping for the best.
Nature doesn't work that way.

@texas2011 : Sure doesn't you never know who is going to get the grand slam. I am definitely looking for the worst and hoping for the best. Now I have to take a nebulizer every 4 hours and won't be ablt to if we lose power.
