Council Member Dave Martin would like to make Lake Houston area residents aware Houston Public Works (HPW) will conduct a bridge repair project on the West Lake Houston Parkway Bridge beginning immediately.

HPW completed an assessment this morning after local drivers made multiple calls in to the city about a possible problem.

The project consists of the replacement of three inch bearing pads on the West Lake Houston Bridge over the San Jacinto River which have slipped out from three concrete beams. The slipped bearing pads are the reason for the difference in elevation between the seams of the bridge. This work is similar to the work that was done in 2015, which included the replacement of deformed or slipped bearing pads. HPW is currently fabricating the needed parts for replacement, and the project is expected to be complete by this November, weather permitting.

**It is important to note the bridge is still structurally sound.

To improve the driving surface while the bearing pads are being fabricated, HPW crews will place a steel plate over the seam and cover it with asphalt. Residents should prepare for lane closures on the West Lake Houston Parkway Bridge throughout the rest of the afternoon. The steel plate and asphalt work will be completed by the end of the day, and we expect all lanes will be open by this evening.

Thank you to Houston Public Works and the Houston Police Department Kingwood Division for their quick response to this matter.

An example. The black rubbery part has slipped out. I'm guessing it dried out and cracked allowing the shift.

Structurally sound, they say.

I'll think I'll just go around till it's fixed.

@+1 : it's fine. Just the black thing failed and the road deck lowered 2+3 inches. All beams, columns and supports are fine. It's not going anywhere.
