Here is a Stranger Danger notice from Humble ISD concerning continuous incidents near Summerwood Elementary involving an unknown man trying to get a student to follow him.
"I wanted to inform you of an incident that was reported to us Wednesday afternoon at dismissal.
A second-grade boy stated that on Monday, January 14, he was riding his bicycle home from school, along Summerwood Lakes Drive near Bentridge Drive, when a man in a white pickup truck slowed down and told the boy to follow him. The boy said no and quickly rode his bicycle home.
The next day, at approximately 4 p.m., the boy stated he was playing on the school playground when the man pulled up and again told the boy to follow him. The boy again rode home.
On Wednesday, as the boy was walking to school, the man pulled alongside the boy in a red truck and told the boy to follow him again. The boy ran to school.
The man is described as a tall, thin Hispanic male with dark hair.
This described incident has been reported to Humble ISD Police who will continue to monitor the area near the school for any suspicious activity.
This is a good opportunity to review the following safety tips:
- Walk to and from school in groups.
- If anything unusual occurs, tell an adult immediately. Time can be critical.
- Never talk to strangers or accept rides from them, even if you are stranded. Call a trusted adult for transportation.
- Be proactive: tour the neighborhood to identify safe and dangerous circumstances and places. Arrange for immediate access to neighbors or other trusted adults who could be contacted in an emergency.
- Don't panic. If you are afraid or have a problem, call a parent or a trusted adult.
- Never tell people at your door, phone callers, or online that you are home alone.
- Keep your house key hidden. Don't give it to anyone and don't keep it in a visible place that would tell people you are going home to an empty house.
- Never get into a car, enter a home, look for a lost pet or person, or accept food or items from an adult, unless your parents know what you are doing or have identified that person as a trusted emergency contact.
- Tell a trusted adult (parent, teacher or counselor) if anyone ever makes you feel uncomfortable.
