Here is a letter sent out from the Atascocita Middle School principal about an investigation into a student that made a "hit list."

"October 25, 2018

Dear Atascocita Middle School Parents,

Since late Tuesday afternoon, our school has been investigating a report that a student had a hit list. We involved Humble ISD Police, the Harris County District Attorney's Office, and our campus Core Threat Assessment Team. After a thorough investigation, the District Attorney's Office did not file charges and the investigation determined that students are safe.

However, this inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. The student involved is receiving support and disciplinary consequences are being applied according to the Student Code of Conduct. Words can bring serious, unintended consequences and require investigation by authorities.

Our school administration has had personal conversations with the parents of students whose names were listed to answer their questions.

I want to assure everyone that our school has multiple measures in place to keep students safe. One of the most important measures is the proactive sharing of information so that all concerns are immediately investigated and students receive support when needed.

I commend those who reported this concern. Safety concerns may be reported to our school staff, Humble ISD Police (281-641-7900) or through the Humble ISD iHELP app.

Sincerely,

Karl Koehler
Principal"

According to the letter, there was indeed a hit list. I wonder why charges weren't filed by the DA.

I hope they remove the child from campus and do not allow him/her back until cleared by a psychologist.

My gosh! But I do wonder why no charges. Making a hit list is definitely alarming.

It's gotten pretty scary around here. If I had a dollar for every time a "stranger danger" letter from the principal has been sent out ... just this school year.

Legally there's only so much a school can do, unfortunately. There's really no such thing as expelling a student anymore. And sometimes the campus is the only place in the district that a particular service is offered and they have to continue providing this service to the student.

Students can be protected through special education and 504 laws that make it almost impossible to properly discipline. And even when sent to the long term discipline program they serve their time and are placed right back into the same classes.

I wish there were laws that protected the other students and teachers as vigorously but there isn't.

Given all the mass shootings, I agree the threat should be taken and treated seriously. I thought schools had zero tolerance policies now regarding violence and threats of violence?

@Err0rErr0R : You seem to know a lot about their threats. It is sad they have them in mind. I hope the person gets some help.

@Err0rErr0R : Doesn't matter if you mean them or not - go threaten a government official and then tell them you didn't really mean it.

True that nobody here probably knows what's going on with this kid. I hope that he/she is getting this addressed to help them?
