Today, Corporal David Mathieu with PCT 4 Constable Mark Herman's office was awarded the 2018 Peace Officer of the Year award from the Lake Houston Chamber of Commerce for his heroic efforts during a shooting in Atascocita earlier this year.
On April 16, 2018, Corporal Mathieu along with additional deputies responded to the 12400 block of Saratoga Woods Lane in reference to a disturbance.
READ ORIGINAL STORY HERE! Upon deputies arriving, a male suspect exited the residence with a shotgun and began shooting at them. One deputy was hit in the leg and groin with multiple buck shot pellets and was unable to move. Constable Deputies immediately returned fire and Corporal Mathieu moved toward the fallen deputy and provided cover while still engaging the armed assailant. Corporal Mathieu was able to move the deputy out of harm's way and immediately began life saving first aid.
Once Corporal Mathieu was able to stop most of the bleeding and the armed assailant was no longer a threat, Corporal Mathieu along with additional deputies provided lifesaving first aid for the shooter.
The deputy and the shooter are both alive today due to the quick actions of Corporal Mathieu and the other Precinct 4 deputies!
