Ten elementary and four middle school students were invited to represent Humble ISD in the Lone Star Leadership Academy hosted by Education in Action this summer.

The Academy provides an opportunity for students across the state to develop leadership skills while learning about Texas and its leaders.

Outstanding students in grades 4 through 8 must be recommended by an educator at their school, maintain an 85 or higher average, demonstrate leadership ability, and be involved in community or school activities. The camps are led by Texas educators and offer students the opportunity to develop and practice leadership skills, gain self-confidence and independence, and meet other high-achieving students from across the state.

The five Humble ISD students participating in the Dallas/Fort Worth Academy will visit the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Fort Worth Stockyards, the Sixth Floor Museum, the Texas Civil War Museum, and AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Park - home of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Six students participating in the Austin/San Antonio Academy will visit the Texas State Capitol, Texas State Cemetery, Supreme Court of Texas, Natural Bridge Caverns and The Alamo. The three participating in the Houston/Galveston Academy will visit NASA's Johnson Space Center, interact with endangered plants and animals at Moody Gardens, tour the Battleship Texas, San Jacinto Monument, and The Cockrell Butterfly Center. They will also spend the night at the George Observatory.

The following students were chosen for this exciting summer learning experience:

Michael Acosta, Timbers Elementary School
Albert Bryant, Atascocita Middle School
Andrew Carson, Foster Elementary School
Grace Cheatham, Riverwood Middle School
Gavin Gleason, Fall Creek Elementary School
