The results of the survey sent out to families of KHS and SCHS on how to approach the 2017-18 school year are in.

See Survey Info From Humble ISD Here!!!

Total responses 4,966
Option A Preferred: 46 percent
Option B Preferred: 54 percent

Theme of Comments:
34 minute class periods are too short.
School on Saturday is problematic for some families.

Because of this feedback, the district made modifications to the options in order to address these concerns. And after thoroughly factoring in all input received, the district is working to develop a bell schedule close to what is seen here below...

Schedule Highlights...

- Provides a Monday-Friday school week for both Kingwood High School and Summer Creek High School.

- Provides instructional periods of an hour or more each day.

- Offers a bell schedule of four class periods on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and three class periods on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is similar to many higher education schedules with shorter Monday/Wednesday/Friday classes and longer Tuesday/Thursday classes.

- Provides classes for Summer Creek High School students in the morning.

- Provides classes for Kingwood High School students in the afternoon.

- Keeps the cafeteria open for extended hours at lunch.

- Maintains extracurricular and athletic opportunities for all students. Kingwood High School students practice before their classes begin. Summer Creek High School classes practice after their classes end.

Kingwood High School Families are invited to an Open House from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Summer Creek High School, 14000 Weckford Boulevard, Houston TX 77044.

Great job creating this schedule. I would just say Kingwood kids have the better times. Teenagers fair better sleeping later. But over all very fair and workable. The similarity to college schedules makes a lot of sense.

I think they did a fantastic job sorting this out so quickly and I hope everyone can make the adjustment in short order.

The only comment is it might have been better (from a traffic standpoint) to have Summercreek in the afternoon, since most of them live a bit closer to the school and would get home before the worst of the 5:00 rush hour traffic hits.

That being said, I'm sure there were many considerations given regarding the decisions on which group of students got what time slot. Either way as a student, I'd be happy!

You are going to school 1/2 a day either way!

@Love.Atascocita My take was they got the afternoon because of the travel times. Making Kingwood go first would require the kids to get up really early for them to be bussed and be there by 7.

Now, if we all remember to try to not use WLHP during those hours.

My only input is I feel very strongly that all of this should've started on the 11th

I feel very strongly that some kid from SCHS will say hello to some KHS kid and all hell will break loose on KDC. "Oh sweet baby Jesus, my little Johnny was assaulted by some free lunch eating, rap music loving SCHS thug. Look at my charts and graphs, it must be true."

@DadX2 It may prove to be a good experience for both sides.

@ladybeachbum
I hope so also. After seeing some of the things written on KDC is just have the feeling that a singular parent will blow some minor incident up into something crazy. I believe nearly everyone will act appropriately but it only takes one idiot from either side. Is it wrong that I trust the kids to be more grown up about this than the adults?

@DadX2 No, we should be able to trust our kids to act kind to one another but it has to be taught in the home. I just think some think they are much better humans than over here. We had a choice to buy at KW but didn't because the traffic there was terrible and that was a long time ago. I have friends there and can say this is not their attitude at all . If you love your kids, put a little tough in their lives so they don't think they have to have a safe room in college.
