Is anyone familiar with this cemetary? Why has it been allowed to fall into despair? What can we, as a community, do about it?

I have lived in Atascocita since 1979 and do remember when the skull was stolen from the one grave and used as a bong by 3 Kingwood teenagers. Does anyone know what happened after that?

Humble does have a lot of History and even hauntings. Been reading about it since another poster started a thread. Pretty interesting!

From what I was told by the locals many of the family members of these deceased have also passed on and there was no incentive to maintain it.

Why is it not considered part of the history of Humble? Why isnt the City of Humble maintaining it? I just think it is sad that thousands of people drive by it daily and don't know it is sitting there. There are supposedly Veterans buried there. No one cares? And according to search in Yahoo, it is part of the haunting of Humble and people come to see that.

Several years ago my son helped clean up this cemetery up . One of the boys in his Boy Scout troop chose to do this as his Eagle Scout project. This was done after the infamous skull bong episode. I really hope those boys who desecrated that individuals final resting place learned from that mistake. It was so wrong.

Maybe if another scout is looking for an Eagle Scout project this could be done again.

If not maybe people on ADC could organize a volunteer cleanup. I would be willing to help organize and contribute my labor. It is just the right thing to do.

Perhaps a local church would like to adopt this project.

If 20 or so individuals contribute 4 or 5 hours it would go a long way.

In 2005 Grace Church got permission from City of Humble & Tx Dept Of Transporation to restore it .Spent many thousands putting in a road & clearing hundreds of trees & working with local historians to restore the cemetery. For the war veterans they put up an American flag . They are trying to get an historical marker on it .2008 is when the 3 boys disturbed a grave & the pastors of the church oversaw the re- interment of the body .

I read there is a vagrant community living there. Who would we ask permission from to go see and possibly work on the area? Any suggestions? I am willing to put forth some effort. Part of history!

Please note:

PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS CEMETERY ALONE!!! I went to the cemetery right after the "bong" incident. No problem. However, my wife wanted to see it, so I took her there. Fortunately, my son was with us. Before we even got to the cemetery, a vagrant man, and not a small man, stepped out into our path and proceed to start a conversation. He explained that he "kind of looks after the place".

My point is that you don't know what could happen if you are there alone. I am a very large man - former college football lineman. And my son is almost as big as I am. So, if this guy had any thoughts of trying anything, I think he had second thoughts. But you never know what may happen - especially if this guy has some friends there also. so, PLEASE DON'T GO THERE ALONE!!!

As an aside, yes, Grace Church in Humble took this cemetery on as a project and cleaned it up and reinterred the remains of the young man. However, this is not an ongoing project. And the City of Humble does not take care of it since, if you read the link, it is not in the City proper. It is just outside the line.

If you want to see more about it - pictures of the headstones, an overview of the geography, etc. you can follow this link Find-A-Grave.
