@nikkiole : I wonder why he chose the word asylum. Just seems a bit drastic. I know a few who have gone up there, but their motives weren't exactly saintly. I guess if you have criminal charges pending asylum is a shot though.
chasinghosts : I have an aunt that is from England, so maybe I could use that if I really wanted to leave lol
@nikkiole : Definitely, just maybe go over for 3 months International Law School. My BFF's son went to Law School in Italy for an entire year. Doing very well with the extra credit.
1. Panama - Have already discussed this with a few Panamanians and found you can live extremely comfortably on less than $20k/year. 2. Belize - Visited a few times and love the relaxed way of life there. Plus, the cost of living is low. 3. Honduras - Same reason as above
@nikkiole : No, Dh wouldn't leave (wait that might be a good thing?) Everyone wants to come here so why would we move? I wouldn't even move from Texas. All this BS will be over one way or another. If Trump doesn't win, we may just have to work a little longer.
I'd go to a tropical island. I have no idea what living conditions are like there, but Fiji or Tahiti look awesome! I could live in a beach shack and be totally happy, as long as I had running water and electricity....probably a/c, too....for the hot flashes .
Leaving was never an option in my mind. I love it here and probably wouldn't adjust well anywhere else outside of the USA. Besides, I am proud to be an American.
tflea : I think Switzerland would be nice. Or Canada.
@nikkiole : That is my answer. Went on a tour of Europe after I graduated high school and my favorite place of all the ones I visited was Lucerne, Switzerland. Absolutely beautiful and the people were soooo friendly compared to some of the other countries.

We talked about Thailand. It's not too far from my mom and my family. It would be so much easier to visit her and for her to visit us. Beaches are beautiful and apartments are very affordable. Foreigners can't own a property there, so it's a 100-year lease. Western medicine is good and cheap. Hubs had a surgery done and cancer treatment at their hospital for 3 months. We felt like royalty.

If a good opportunity to work outside of the country presented itself, I'd go for it. Not picky about the location as long as family friendly. I wish I had known about opportunities like the JET program when I was in college. I would have applied for it hoping for a unique experience before joining the rat race.
