It will take a lot of planning for schools to prepare for our "new normal".
And every parent will be keeping an eye on this inflammatory illness to see if it spreads.
I imagine schools will need to offer parents choices - those not comfortable sending their kids could have the option so learn remotely.
Others might prefer to send theirs and they might not have any other option since they need to go to work. And then....there are those few parents who treat school like their free daycare. But that's another issue.

I pity the superintendents who will have to make all these difficult decisions and the teachers who will have to adapt.....but I have no doubt they will be flexible and do what's best for the kids.

I don't think it is the on the school, I believe it is on the parents.

Reality we have mega schools (especially) highschool here in Atascocita. Schools are crowded in our area and there is no way social distancing is possible. We are not going to hire more teachers or build more schools so can't cut the classrooms in half to allow kids to spread out. Can't have a day then a night shift with each teacher teaching 2 shifts.

Parents are going to have to decide either I home school or I send my kids to school or I go the private school route. Tough decision for parents.

A lot of kids I talked to enjoyed the online schooling. In fact they even did better than in the classroom. I bet these students opt. To e-learn next year. There are those students that have a lot of extracurricular activities be it athletics or social groups, they will probably attend. The combination of the two might be enough. to ease the crowding situation, hence the survey we saw in another thread

@Smokeybear : some schools less than 30% weekly login rate. Weekly, not daily.

I was rather disappointed in the quality of the elearning for my middle schooler. One "busy work" assignment per week per class that took less than 30 min and one 5-10min zoom meeting without video during which personal activities were discussed and nothing subject-related.

I get that this wasnt planned and the infrastructure for online learning wasn't there so I'm not mad. But I wouldn't want the same for next year unless these courses were completely overhauled and looked more like an online college course with lectures and class chats about the subject matter, more hours required, more work assigned, video required, etc.

My college student's workload was more reasonable but as a science major, lacked lab so we aren't getting the level of education we are paying for. He is taking an online summer course, non-major. But if we are told next semester will be online with no sports or dorms, we'd withdraw and take cheaper online courses elsewhere.

@+1 : Too soon to decide. What will June/July look like??? Watch out wk. of 6-15 give or take.

Wonder what HumbleISD thought when some colleges said they would be closing campuses in November and will be picking up with online classes until ???!!?!

I am sure some / most / all districts are hurting due to cuts in state and federal money because of zero attendance; however:

#1 PRIORITY: Health and well being of each and every child as well as teachers, entire staff and administrators.

Time will tell!!!!!

@+1 : Public (indoctrination centers) schools should have been shut down decades ago. EVERYTHING else should be opened immediately.

Open with caution - 25% occupancy, social distancing and wear mask to protect SELF and OTHERS.

FYI: A waterpark full of people (literally shoulder to shoulder) in pools is not a good idea and has been discouraged by healthcare EXPERTS!

Plus remember the poop filled diapers!!!!

Go out but be smart and responsible!!!!
