Iowa special tonight "Maid Rite Loose Meat Sandwich" (The Iowa Specialty). I have not had one since my mother cooked it many years ago. I even forgot the name and had to call my Cuz The Goddess of food to get the name. I did a little Texan infusion on this. Used ground Bison, melted provolone on the hoagie bun then piled the meat on and topped it with a few sport peppers.

@Astrokatz : I grew up with a renegade Maid-Rite. We would travel to Greenville, OH for them. Much more basic there. Meat, onion,steamed bun, little mustard. Cheese was available but with plenty of stink eye. Bagged chips and bottled drinks only sides.

I make these but not like yours. Learned how from Rose Ann Barr's ex Tom what's his name on some cooking show.
My kids wanted them that night so I did what he said and they loved them.

@Astrokatz Could you share your "authentic" recipe?? Since I'm a native Texan and have basically been nowhere, I haven't had one of these. I googled recipes, and they are all different...

FNULNU1954 : Why have you never been anywhere else? There are so many beautiful things in the USA, you must go see some.

@chasinghosts : I don't know... When I was a kid, we never went anywhere. It was a big deal to go to Sharpstown Mall!! So, I guess, I've never been a traveler which doesn't mean I couldn't travel now. DH isn't big on going anywhere except to the garage to work on the latest "project."

@ParksideRes : Me too, but I have to go to Frankfort, Cinci and Chicago before I go on a trip trip.
I'm planning one out to Nashville, to Philly, Delaware all the way up to VT and back. May even come back throufgh the Carolinas as I've never been there or FL.
