@WeveBecomeEastHouston : Sorry! I guess I should dig my way out of the underground cave I'm living in. I have, yet, to hear the terms Perp 1 or Perp 2 spoken out loud nor have I witnessed guns or hearing them being shot off in my "hood." Maybe I should get out of my hood more.

@Sammiejo : Whatevs. It was a great place to be about 6 years ago and now it's trending decidedly into the 'maybe I don't want my kids in that high school' category.

@WeveBecomeEastHouston : I've lived here since 2003 and I agree it's changed some but I feel like you're making it out to be the slums and that's not the cause. I don't care where you live in the US, there's always going to be some bad in the neighborhood. If you're truly that unhappy with this area maybe you should consider moving to a less crime ridden area. Be sure and let us know where that is so we can all look in that area for home.

@Sammiejo : That's kinda the problem isn't? Why not just maintain your house?

@WeveBecomeEastHouston : Oh! I do maintain my home. I'm in my 60's and have a couple of handymen I call when I needed the in and outside painted 2 years ago, just had one guy pressure wash the outside due to algae, had Ring cameras front and back installed, had new back fence done in the last month, had TNT come out and clean up my huge tree, installed a new mailbox post all by myself, keep my garage cleaned out so my car can go in it so I know you're not referring to me regarding the maintain your home comment. My home is a huge investment so I fully intend on maintaining it.

@Sammiejo : No I don't mean you personally need to maintain your home. I'm sure you have a fine home.

It's an analogy.

FWIW, I don't think Atascocita is a bad place or a 'hood ' or a 'slum'. I think it could trend that way and I'm concerned at the increase of gun crime. So from that perspective and my personal observations I can sympathize with Carol's point of view.

How is that not fair? Do you live in a different Atascocita that doesn't have a few memorials of gunned down kids?

@WeveBecomeEastHouston : No, I live right here in the middle of it and every single time I see one of the memorials for people killed in car wrecks, gunned down or whatever reason it's been placed there. I say a prayer for that person lost and the families involved. It's a very sad situation and I don't know what the solution is to it all. I believe in my heart that it has a lot to do with the situation in which a person is raised and the morals they were raised with. Again, this is just my opinion so I don't want anyone jumping down my throat about my opinion because like a butt, we all have one!

@Sammiejo : I agree with you . I think our lives are greatly influenced by how we are raised .And when I was raised most all the women did not work outside the home . What ever money the husband brought home is all they had & they made it go around . Most women were home raising their kids . At least in small town Louisiana they were .

Sorry to interrupt, but the klobasnek at Breakfast House (across from Culvers) can't be beaten. And my apologies but I am a snob about that subject.

Resurrecting this thread to update. Reading @Cardmakers post, I decided to go back. I understand about bad days. I know how easily a good day can turn.

Went back a week later, same reaction from the same lady. An automatic "Thank you, ma'am" .

Went there again this morning. Scenario: first in line was a couple who couldn't get their Apple card to work. Left without their order. Customer #2 approaches the counter and tells the owner he will pay for their order. He goes to the door and motions them back in. customer #2 tells me that he works 14 hours a day, with Sunday being his only day off, that he knows about hard times. They come back, get their order, thank the the man and leave. #2 pays for both orders. Owner does the automatic thank you with no change of facial expression. My turn ... I ordered a strawberry cream cheese pastry. "I don't have that". Asked for an Apple streudel. "I don't have that" . Ok. Two kolaches. Her: what else? Me donut holes and chocolate cake donut. Her .. Bags donut holes. Don't have the chocolate cake. What else?. Me that's it. Takes my card, automatic thank you.

Conclusion: a perfect chance for her to express appreciation by smiling. a perfect opportunity to build her business. She received money she would have lost because of kindness from #2. Never going back there again. If she loses business, it is on her. Also thought later that by not wearing gloves she is spreading germs from handing debit /credit cards back to her products. No, thanks. Truly sorry I gave her my business today.I

Gave it my best shot!

@SnoopSister : Well, at least you tried. Cannot say I gave it as much thought as you; however, we all experience things differently. I think you made an honest effort and I'm sure that alone can be appreciated Emoticon
