@Cardmakers post, I decided to go back. I understand about bad days. I know how easily a good day can turn.
Went back a week later, same reaction from the same lady. An automatic "Thank you, ma'am" .
Went there again this morning. Scenario: first in line was a couple who couldn't get their Apple card to work. Left without their order. Customer #2 approaches the counter and tells the owner he will pay for their order. He goes to the door and motions them back in. customer #2 tells me that he works 14 hours a day, with Sunday being his only day off, that he knows about hard times. They come back, get their order, thank the the man and leave. #2 pays for both orders. Owner does the automatic thank you with no change of facial expression. My turn ... I ordered a strawberry cream cheese pastry. "I don't have that". Asked for an Apple streudel. "I don't have that" . Ok. Two kolaches. Her: what else? Me donut holes and chocolate cake donut. Her .. Bags donut holes. Don't have the chocolate cake. What else?. Me that's it. Takes my card, automatic thank you.
Conclusion: a perfect chance for her to express appreciation by smiling. a perfect opportunity to build her business. She received money she would have lost because of kindness from #2. Never going back there again. If she loses business, it is on her. Also thought later that by not wearing gloves she is spreading germs from handing debit /credit cards back to her products. No, thanks. Truly sorry I gave her my business today.I
Gave it my best shot!
